Automated Subs & Bits Loader

The Automated Subs & Bits Loader speeds tubular handling and enhances safety by removing personnel from the drilling floor. The loader operates hydraulically to bring subs and bits, preloaded during rig up, to well center to be threaded to the top drive driving-shaft thread or to tubulars. It operates hands-free or can be controlled from a driller’s cabin.

The loader is mounted on the drill floor on the right side of the mast. It holds six subs and three bits, and is reloaded using a jib crane and winch on the drilling floor.

Additional Working Floor Automation Systems

  • Automated Hydraulic Stabilizer Loader – It brings the proper stabilizer, preloaded during rig up, to well center to be threaded to the top drive-shaft thread or to tubulars. It operates hands-free or can be controlled from the driller’s cabin. It can be loaded with three sets of one near-bit stabilizer and two string stabilizers per drilling size. For example, the loader will hold three 17 1/2″ stabilizers, three 12 1/4″ stabilizers, and three 8″ stabilizers. It is reloaded using a jib crane and winch.
  • Automated Mud Bucket – It moves to well center to collect fluids inside tubulars when the joint connection is unthreaded. The fluids are deposited into the trip tank, mud tanks, or waste storage tank.
  • Automated Tool Joint Greaser – The greaser is mounted to the frame of the Automated Mud Bucket and is used when tripping in. After a stand is lifted from the monkeyboard and is about to be connected to the tool joint on the working floor, the greaser, using compressed air, sprays a measured amount of grease on the rotating tool joint. It operates hands free or can be activated by a switch in the driller’s cabin.
